Nokia has improved the energy efficiency of all new products, and the devices remind you to unplug your charger when the battery is full. With over a billion people using Nokia phones around the world, small steps like these make a big difference.
By providing eco applications and services, Nokia increases awareness of environmental choices and promotes sustainable actions, like offsetting CO2 emissions caused by flying. Effective end-of-life practices close the lifecycle loop, putting energy and valuable materials back into circulation. Nokia currently offers take-back schemes in 85 countries.
Nokia designers come up with creative solutions to lessen our environmental impact. The sourcing managers are in constant dialogue with suppliers to confirm full material information and compliance of every single component and module, and to ensure that Nokia Supplier Requirements and related environmental and ethical standards are met. There is a dedicated Design for Environment (DfE) specialist for every product and site, to support product development and monitor that rigorous quality, safety and environmental requirements are met through a series of milestone reviews. Packaging specialists work to minimize the materials and logistics burden: every Nokia product today ships in a smaller box than its earlier equivalents. Such product stewardship allows Nokia to know in detail what materials and substances go into each product and how energy efficient it is, and enables them to extend this knowledge to all customers through Eco Declarations.
Since 2001 Nokia has provided Eco Declarations of all its products. The Eco Declaration provides basic information on the environmental attributes of the product covering material use, energy efficiency, packaging, disassembly and recycling.
